One of the most ingenious uses of the internet is the online auctions, pioneered by eBay.
There are three major reasons to use an online auction:
1. To sell off stuff that you don’t use like old DVDs, CDs, Books, and Computer Games for example. You'd be surprised at how much money you can get for some of these things - usually at least double what you would get at a car boot sale.
2. To buy things at prices way below those at the shop, because they are either second hand or sold by a small trader that is using the auction site as its sales mechanism.
3. For specialist or sold off items. If you find that a pop concert of football match is sold out, you can nearly always find someone auctioning tickets on eBay. You may have to pay a big price but the option is there.
As a rule auctions are best for low value and lighter items (you have to post or courier them) and particularly items that are known not to degrade like CDs, Software and DVDs.
